Differentials 03 2500 HD G80

For the first time in my life I'm changing differential fluid and rear cover.  I bought a Dorman cover and some RTV for Differentials along with a rear gasket.  Also bought some Mobil 1 75w90 LS for front and rear.  Did I forget anything?   Been so back and forth on if the Mobil 1 LS was okay to use cause of the "LS" and I believe I'm good to go.  Let me know if you have any advice.  Doing both front and rear.

When you take the cover off do you spray out the differential with brake brake cleaner to clean it or what should one do?

Thanks!

When I've changed fluid, I have used brake cleaner in the past. But in order to get it really clean you'll use a ton of it. I would maybe use a little and some shop towels and wipe out the bottom of the diff. When you break all the bolts loose. Take them all out except for 1 of the top ones. Loosen it a little and knock the cover free from the bottom, that way the cover doesn't fall and make a giant mess.

You probably already know this but you don't have to pop the cover to drain the diff.

Roger that. I haven't fully crawled under but I know there is a drain plug. Thanks!

You can just drain/fill. If you do it often, that will suffice. But if you do it once say every 100k, (which is fine depending how much you tow) then it's good to take the cover off and dig the shavings off of the magnet. You should be good[emoji1417]

Magnet is in the drain plug...no need to pull the cover.

I'm changing the cover because the original is really rusted up.  Hopefully won't need to do it again for a long time.
