Hi,

 

I am late to the party for sure. Could some one out here contact me regarding if the Black Bear tune fixed the fish bite / chuggle issues. I saw where SCUBA78 said his was fixed., but that was a while ago. I am a little fearful from other posts about the torque convertor needing to be replaced. If the torque convertor is the primary issue, then I do not want to throw 709 bucks for a tune that is faking the ECM/TCM to make me think its repaired. Then  another 75 k on the truck and the transmission goes. Please advise. PLEASE. Thx

I've had this issue since day one with my truck (2017 5.3L 6 speed). I had one TSB performed that slightly improved the issue (forget the TSB #, but it was software reprogramming, not the new fluid/fluid exchange TSB that's out for the 8-speeds). Otherwise have used a Range device on and off for a couple of years to help deal with the issue. No tune, although I have considered it.

 

Just after I turned 100k miles this past January, I had one day where the transmission really acted up and a check engine light came on (I think it was P0741, TCC clutch performance or stuck off). I cleared the code with a ScanGauge, but the poor shifting continued and the CEL came back on. The dealer diagnosed the issue as the torque converter. They replaced it and the check engine light has been off since. Shifting returned to "normal" along with the fish bite issue. No different than the first 100k miles. This leads me to believe the engine/transmission tuning is the issue, and it eventually causes the torque converter to fail. Not the other way around. Based on this anecdotal evidence, getting a tune early on in ownership may avoid torque converter issues down the road.

Ohh Man. Not good. So ironically, I took mine in and the issue hasn't been "replicated" at all after 500 miles of test driving it. The tech, me and the tech and just me. I am at a loss. The tech did say that he checked the codes and GM had a update and so he updated it. He updated it around the 300 mile mark of the test driving we were doing together and in part. I cant get a flipping answer from no one. I point blank asked the GM at the dealership that I am willing to pay for it if they in fact think they can "fix" it. Without it doing it for them, they cant say what it is. I tried brake torqueing it. no Dice. I feel it. Its on the fringe of doing it, but it hasnt done it really good like I have been experiencing. I have had this truck since 24k and now it has 88K. I have mentioned it several times to the dealer but its just one of those things that has to act up at the dealer. I havent the first clue as to how to capture the acting up on my own for proof. GM said that IF they could get it do do it, that GM would maybe pay for 25-50% of the bill because of the previous Hx. So after reading your post, now I am really confused. 

 

Also I might add, that I take very good care of my truck. I love it. And you might ask, why do you put up with it. Well to be honest the sporadic-ness of it has gotten less and less to where it does it nearly every long hill. I just press the pedal more and it downshifts and its gone. Sooo it has come time to trade fix tune or something

Nick do you mind me asking how much the clutch and torque convertor ran you? And yes that's terrible that you still have the fish biting...........

    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated.     • PS: Here's pic of the 2014 wheels I'd like to run when it's not winter. Stuck my finger around new wheel caliper setup. Very little clearance. I suspect these won't fit, but won't know for sure till I try.   Edit: And my first mod. Stubby antenna from the old truck.
