Grumpy Bear Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 Ya'll do know that 'throttle response' is how the engine responds to throttle position and that the 'throttle ramp rate' is what controls how the throttle blade responds to the pedal position...right? On the floor is on the floor. This ramp alteration is there because throttle blade position is not equal to MFR percentage. Keeps ol' girl from getting twitchy. Allows the cruise control to be tuned easier. Keeps your dumb arse from killing yourself when you insist on cruise control on wet ice. Spinning your tires in the rain wont move you an inch faster or further or out of any ones way. Didn't matter when we had carburetors. They have a built in signal delay that's just part of their physics. The ramp delay mimics this. That dump you feel isn't the ramp rate. It's torque control. Ain't fly by wire just lovely?

Well, I might like a bit more twitchy, at least a bit more of a truck that's actually awake and not knapping so I have to kick it in the ass to wake it up. I understand a bit of torque management is needed, but my girl feels like she is not paying attention and that isn't acceptable to me. I want her full attention as that is what I give her when I am behind the wheel.

Well, I need to clarify that I am NOT looking to spin my tires just looking for a more attentive animal. Most people have been in the position at least once or twice in their lifetime... you need to go and you need to go NOW. I just want a more responsive truck.
cbrsilv15 Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 I know. I was just posting that about my truck in my experience.

So you are saying you would spin your tires on wet payment after such a mod? I would like more info if you disabled TC and this was the result... How about your tires? Brand? No weight in bed?

That's what those clutch, timing a fuel pump timers do. Manage torque. Maximum acceleration happens under conditions of controlled slip. About 3% faster wheel speed than road speed until the car/truck catches up to the motor. Torque control is a parts saver that enhances emergency response. It shuts nothing down. It slows it down to a manageable level. Did you know that most of the time it is active is when your de-accelerating and the injectors are turned off? What do you think might happen under partial throttle and full vacuum, a time when conventional systems would be at full advance, and have the fuel turned back on eight dead cylinders? POP goes the weasel. And what happens when a fuel car locks the clutch up to soon? Wheel spin! What does that do? Slow the car and you lose the race. What happens when you spin the wheels on a rainy night when you are trying to get out of the way of a full on broad side? Ya get hit. Ya might anyway but at least the deck is stacked in your favor. I'll admit it feels weird and that it could be tuned closer to the edge and that's what a tune does. It's what guys like Allan Johnson or Rahn Tobler do. Your just asking a computer to do that task because were just not that good. It's not as evil as it's made out to be.
