It's sad that buying a new vehicle has become a not so pleasant experience. Much like you I really like new vehicles and have purchased many in my lifetime although only 2 in the past ten years. I bought a new truck this past summer, I took going to 3 different dealerships before I finally got one to give me a price that didn't change when I made my way to the business office. Less then 10 minutes in the business office and I was on my way.

I don't. And no, not all dealers or salesman are like that. It can be very hard, but I have found great salesman that didn't BS.

You CAN run credit report or background info without a SSN. Do a search on it. And they asked me to sign a Credit LOAN application.( I'm assuming you are not one of those morons that's signs those without reading the fine print.)

If they had written up a form on the spot without the 12 lines of small print for a credit application, I would have signed it.

If I signed that form, that said "you consent to "insert dealer name" to access your credit information with regards for applying for a Loan" blah blah blah a few hundred more words." They cam pull my credit report and even sell it. They had me sign another form first for consent to release any information they obtain through the process(again, I read the fine print, they say they don't sell it for financial gain, just anyone they have a business relationship with. ).

Guess what, you sign that, the can get credit info. And if you read read my entire post, there has been a big scam running across the nation where people were only signing credit loan applications, they not going though with the purchase, and dealers WERE doing stealth loans under the people's names to boost their numbers on cars they never test drove. They were forging signatures, and other crap.

And before you say a big dealer won't do that, WELLS FARGO did it to thousands of people.

Is this a large reputable Chevrolet dealership? That was my original question.

.They have some different brands locally, don't think they exist beyond the state. And I bought a different car from them in the past, and later on ran into the finance guy who told me he left because they were getting full of themselves. I had a coworker who bought a 2014 K2xx new and was told it had Nav, he said ok I'll figure it out later. It did not, and they told him "whoops" after the Sale. He raised a big stink and they agreed to put nav in. He goes to pick it up and they installed the GPS sensor on the roof, and ran the cable exposed on the exterior around the windshield, into the door jam and OVER the door weather stripping, on top of the dash and into the headunit. He opened the door to get in, sees the cable just hanging there, said he walked back inside and said "THAT IS NOT ******* ACCEPTABLE" their other place agreed to a trade in value, told me a week later when we finalized the deal they were printing the check for 2 k less. They changed their mind after I told them I was in the market for another car also and they just got crossed off the list, all future service would be at their competitor, and a few other things that entered my mind.

So I have other reasons for not trusting the place, that's I was was just wanting to pay and get out, I'm pretty sure they are losing money on the car, why I was interested anyway. They hadn't washed it in a long time when I saw it last, (the amount of bird crap on it would have given Ryan a stroke)looks like they are about to give up. They have lowered the price 7500 since I first noticed it, maybe 9k or so since they got it, I'm not sure what it was first at. Once a car is on a lot 2 months it's not doing any good for the dealer. They are probably running finance on it themselves, I have read that's how most dealers operate, and they start bleeding money after so long. Had a classic car dealer owner tell me the insurance alone can suck your profits after a few weeks.

You CANNOT run a credit check on ANYONE without their written permission and SSN.

Dealer did that before I ought my 07

told them I already had my financing set ...

General manager walked out and said with my credit I was gunna pay some outrageous interest rate ...

I told the sales man that his mgr just lost him a sale and walked out ..

went to another dealer and bought the truck there ...

then a week later parked in front of the original dealers showroom as I went in to buy some mudflaps ...

salesmans jaw dropped ...

I check my credit report almost daily. I also get an alert if any inquiries are made. They make it pretty easy to closely monitor your credit these days. It doesn’t completely avoid fraud, but you can be made aware almost instantly if someone is messing with your credit.
