Reduced engine power

Recommended Posts

I tried many fixes until I came upon an article from a company who had 1000 of these trucks and he said the number one issue 99% of the time was a

  • Defective accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor

I changed this out and after 3 years of off and on reduced engine power, the problem is finally solved.

This was the one item that I didn't change until now.

Hope this helps someone. U can change the sensor without replacing the entire pedal. U will have to unbolt  the pedal to remove and replace the sensor but not a bad job. Took about an hour.

Which code did you have? Can't just say that replacing the APP is gonna fix 99% of the people who have reduced engine power codes when most of the are not APP related and are TB sensor 1 or 2 related or TAC module problems.

If you have a p2120, p2121 or p2122 yes an APP will more than likely be whats causing your reduced engine power code and replacing it will fix it.

But if you have a P2108, P2135, P0120, p0121, p0122, p0123 codes which will also cause a reduced engine power code. Replacing the APP will not fix this.

You didn't post the year of your truck.

You didn't post the engine in your vehicle.

You didn't post the codes in your truck.

Someone is going to read your post and blindly throw an APP in it and it may fix it... Or may not. But they have a chance of wasting money and time.

You need to diagnose the problem... Not break out the parts cannon and start firing.

With all do respect to Colossus... This is a terrible post.

I agree.  I was just so excited that both vehicles responded. This business owner was very adamant about is history with these vehicles and I wish I can find the post but I cant seem to locate it again.  I would have listed the other two issues that cropped up  for him also. When you have these kind of statistics, it is good to know.  In any case I wanted to help someone get through it faster.  I meant well.

I have two 2003 Tahoes.  One is an LT and the other is a Z71.  5.3 liter gas engine.  Both with adjustable foot pedal.  They require the very same sensor.  The codes I received were p1516 and p2135

Yeah I agree that you meant well and I know that reading a post is like reading a text message you can take it any way you want, so I hope you didn't take it as I was bashing, just informing.Glad your vehicles are fixed!
