Tap into High Beam - Factory HID

Looking for a good location to get a +12v signal to activate a relay when the high beams are on only. I know these headlights just move a shutter, so not even sure if there is a constant 12v applied, or just a short signal to move the shutter?

Truck is a 2018, I have tried searching, but most posts seem to be referencing the trucks 14-15 trucks with halogen bulbs.

yep looking to add some lights and want to have them turn on with the high beams through a relay.

There’s a fuse in the engine bay fuse box you could use an add a fuse to. Personally I just wedged a thin wire under the fuse.

Any idea what number the fuse is? or what it is called?

I can't find anything that implies the high beams, only head lamps.

I believe it was 58 labeled headlamps. I’d have to double check under the hood and it’s much too cold today. Let me know if you don’t figure it out and I’ll check Tuesday

yep, you were right, fuse #58 is for the highbeams, now to figure out how to tap into that triple micro fuse, and run the wire outside the fuse box.

Or just find the high beam wire and t-tap it?

Would this method allow you to have a 3-way switch for a light bar and have it come on with the intellibeam headlights when it’s tied to the high beams?

Based on my understanding of how Intellibeam systems work (from my moms Grand Cherokee), yes this will work just fine and doesn't require anything special.  Intellibeam is just a program a car can run that tells the highbeams to come on or turn off automatically.  If you t-tap into your high beam wire and use that as a signal for your light bar relay (port 86), your light bar and high beams will come on whenever your Intellibeam program tells it to.

If you want a switch that can allow the light bar to run light bar based on high beams in position "A", light bar always off in position "B", and turn on whenever you want in position "C", this is simple.  You need a dual throw rocker switch which takes two inputs.  This switch needs an input from your highbeams, an input from a 12-V constant signal (cigarette lighter outlet), a ground, and an output wire that goes into your relay into port 86.

I can draw this up if that makes it easier to understand.

I crammed the wire into the hole and plugged the fuse back in. Not pretty but it works and it’s snug. I used a 20g wire.
