Ride quality - Help!!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I am hoping you can all shed some light as to why my truck rides like it has wooden wheels. I have a 2014 Sierra with 105,000 miles. The truck has a Ready lift 2.5' leveling kit and a Zone Offroad 1.5' body lift. I also have Toyo 275/65/20 for tires. Maybe I just need new shocks? or possibly the body lift? even though it was said not to affect ride quality. Any insight or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Billstein shocks are known for riding rough. Your leveling kit and body lift would not effect the ride whatsoever.

Probably just needs new shocks

A little more information may garner you more responses. Did you buy your truck like this?  Does your truck shake at higher speeds?  Does it ride rough at all times or only over bumps?  Did this just start?  If it did just start and you made no other modifications, then something as simple as throwing a wheel weight could be the culprit.  Or, you may have worn suspension components which can be a free diagnosis at a reputable shop.  Tires have a huge influence on ride quality.  Did you recently change tires?

hate to burst your bubble there, but a leveling kit will hurt the ride quality no matter what brand kit you use. It raises the front of the frame higher off the ground and in turn puts more pressure on the front suspension. My wife complained at first about the leveling kit on my truck because of the ride.

it is shocks/springs... ride height has not so much to do with it. look at a raptor and it looks to be really plush ride even with ride height.

If you put more compliant shocks on it will ride better. Performance shocks have more damping to control the mass of the typical monster tires and the higher velocity offroaders slam them into. Put on softer shocks and springs and go offroad and you may bottom them out.

I took my level kit out and put all 4 bilstein 5100s and the truck rode better in my opinion

I am going to do exactly the same. Did you adjust the new shocks to how you had it when you had the leveling kit in there? How much of a difference did it make?

I just had the new tires put on and they are balanced and everything, the truck just seemed to ride worse as time went on.

I put them on the highest setting and removed the level kit, truck sat about the same height. The difference Is very noticeable as the ranchos are junk in my opinion, I didn't like the ball joint angle either. Tires are also a key to a stiffer rid. The stock 265 car tires are smooth but makes the truck feel unstable plus the Goodyear's are trash as well haha I have 275/60/20 KO2s and I really don't have any complaints
