Hi everyone, I have a 2015 SIlverado that has about 40000 miles on it. I took it on a road trip today of about 200 miles and when I was about 5 miles from home I got a service 4wd message. I drove the whole way in 2wd as I do 95% of the time. Once I was off the highway I realized my truck was unable to make turns. Pretty much any turn of the wheel caused the truck to almost come to a grinding halt while the engine seemed to rev. I was able to force it through turns a bit but smelled a burning rubber type smell so I pulled over and parked it. Has anyone run into an issue like this or have any insight to what type of issues I could be looking at? I will of course be calling the dealer to bring it in tomorrow, but I'm wondering what I am looking at now. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your transfer case is stuck in four wheel drive. Try cycling your four wheel drive into 4-wheel low back to 4 high and then back to 2 wheel drive. Whether it works or not take it to the dealer.

Any update on this? I have an issue that has some of the same characteristics - no service message though.

The update is: I have tried cycling though all the 4wd and 2wd modes, it seems to be stuck in 4 Auto.

Bushleague, thanks for the reply, I haven’t had the truck in 4wd in about a week and when I did it was in 4 auto, but it wasn’t left overnight.

The issue persists,  but no Chevy dealers can look at it until next week, so I’m stuck with no truck I’m feeling pretty down on the truck, the dealer and Chevy as a whole.

Mine came on today.   Last week I was in 4 wheel drive when I parked.   When I started the truck I tried to switch back into 2WD and the DIC said "Service 4 Wheel Drive."   It would not change back to 2WD.  I then (after some google) put in N and switched to 4 LO.   It shifted.   I then was able to move to 2WD.

Was fine for a little over a week.   Then today I got:   "Service Stabilitrak".  and... "Steering Assist Reduced,  Drive with Care".   The truck is at the dealer.   Been most of the day.   Still no word.    2017 1500 with 14,000 miles.

I don’t know how his turned out, but the exact same thing happened to my 2015 this week. Mine has 60,000 miles on it, but was still under the GMPP “Major Guard” plan for another year. Ask me what THAT was worth.? Had the truck towed to dealer($155.00), they said it was a “fluke”, reprogrammed it, and charged me $282.89!!!! Warranty didn’t cover it because no parts had to be changed?! When I asked how they know it won’t happen again...”it shouldn’t “....well, it “shouldn’t” have happened the first time!!!!!
