Squeaking U-joint?

I have a squeaking noise coming from the rear end of my truck. I hear it when accelerating but not when I let up on the throttle. It continues when I apply the brakes at the same time I am accelerating. I also makes noise at parking speeds.

 

A friend of mine told me that it was the u-joint/s but the truck only has 45K miles.

 

Any ideas?

Check your leaf springs and the rest of the suspension. Get some silicone spray and hose down the places where parts move. Drive the truck and see if it goes away. You may want to spray just one thing at a time, so when it quits making noise, you'll know what it is.

 

Does the truck bed make noise if you stand next to it and grab the top of the bedrail and rock the truck back and forth sideways? How about bouncing up and down on bed? Any noise there?

 

Never heard of a U-joint making a squeek. Most times it's a clunk.

My neigbors Tahoe was squeeking and squawking like the dickens when his u-joints were going out.

my spare tire used to squeak a lot. make sure it is as tight as you can get it. if there is any slack it will rub and squeak.

Well, I just had my U-Joints changed, and I'm at 44k.

 

I had one changed about 15k earlier, it would squeek like you are saying, under accelleration, then let up.

 

the most recent one would squeek then stop, as it spun.

 

If you have the extended warranty, they will cover it, they just covered mine.

It turned out to be the front U-joint on the rear driveshaft. It was rusted and you could barely turn it by hand. I had my mechanic change both over to greaseable ones and all is well.

 

My mechanic charged me $80.00 parts and labor. When I called around to various dealerships the average cost was over $200.00.
