@High Country 6.2L/8 @Pearl2017 to clarify, are you guys saying Trifecta CAN tune the 2017-2018 8 speed transmission without it being physically unlocked/modified? Everyone swears it can't be done from any tuner without it being modified first.

And if so, is it worth it? I'm so sick of my 2017 Sierra with all the 8 speed issues, looking for a resolution.

With the Tri-tune the trans has a "sport mode" when you enable CC. Whether that is a trans tune i don't know for sure? seems a lot like Tow Haul mode. I no longer use that tune it never really seemed to be $500 worth of silky smooth and i would have needed to spend more to Iron it out. the truck ran a lot better after the trans was flushed and an update at the dealer. After that putting the tune back on seemed to undo the goodness a bit. I already had the interface so licensed HPTuners to disable V4 mode and adjust timing for slight knocking issue. One thing i would try is if you have larger tires and wheels is to correct the speedometer. IMO the additional mass and diameter has some effect on the trans torque calculations that may contribute negatively to smooth trans function. only time it really acts odd is cold mornings. On those days i put it in 1st gear and slowly roll out ...get a bit of revs then manually go to second...third etc after a few blocks switch to auto and all is good. Also have the trans "Pill flip" mod ...trans behaves perfectly.

I don't have Trifecta but I'm pretty sure they use the same program that was used on my 8 speed. I narrowed it down to trifecta or a local tuner. I went local because of having it tuned on the dyno for better results. I was using manual mode shifting a lot prior to the tune, now I rarely use it.

@Pearl2017 thanks for the info. I googled "trans pill flip" and Google pulled up a ton of "transgender" stuff LOL. So, that being said, can you tell me what that means?

@ray2005 what was the total cost having it tuned locally? I'm assuming you had to pay $200'ish to unlock the TCM module first + whatever the tuning itself cost?

The pill flip is the transmission thermostat. You can flip the thermostat valve plunger and it opens the trans cooler all the time. This will drop trans temps 20-30 degrees. its an easy and reversable mod.

    • Can ask that about a lot of places.   Holiday sells 91 for $1 over 87 octane. BP 93 is 80 cents. Amoco 93 is 80 cents Kwik Trips is $1.20 for 92 or whatever they have and $1 for the 91.   I know that this is not exactly same as what you are saying with the premium to premium debate of those two stations but why is there such a difference. Top Tier this and that, it's all BS. All the fuel comes from the same damn refinery, so give me a break.
    • Why does Mobil Premium cost 90 cents a gallon more than Shell Premium when their regular offerings are but pennies apart?
    • Was all the way down to $3.69 a gallon but then jumped back to $3.99 just because for some reason.   Diesel floats between $4.80's to $5.10ish a gallon. I even saw Diesel #1 for $6.09 today but nobody in there right mind even buys that in the summer.
    • Mine just keeps lagging or getting stuck on the reverse camera. When I turn off the truck, get out, and close the door it will still stay on. It’s very intermittent and I would not be able to duplicate the issue.
    • I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !
