Stock shock replacement

Further to the above the GM parts sites list about 20 different part numbers for front springs, all based on different option codes (6A2,6CT,6D1, 7D8,7FQ,7FW,7SS,Z56 etc, etc)

Is there any way of relating truck models or spring specs to these option codes? I would imagine the different springs have different lengths and / or spring rates which would be well worth knowing if chasing a better ride with any brand of shock.
