I have a 99 Tahoe (old style) If I replace the head unit will I lose Chimes and all that stuff or is it the newer body styles that have the problems? Thanks.

I had a 99 Silverado and I replaced the head unit in about 3 months ago and I don't think I lost any of the chimes. I think it's just the later models that feed the door chimes through the speakers.

 

I would double check for you but I no longer have it, just traded it in for an 03.

 

I do have a 3 month old Alpine CDA-9811 that I'm not using anymore. If you're interested let me know, it's in perfect condition.

It's only 2003s that have that problem. Replace at will!

I replaced that head unit and speakers on my '02 Tahoe and didn't lose any chimes. Frankly, this is the first I've ever heard of any such problem. Glad I didn't have it!

Should only be the 2003+ since they now have the Data Class 2 wiring systems for everything.
