New or used is really up to the individual and their finances. I would keep in mind that they made changes for the better (according to my buddy) in the new Duramax that was introduced in 17

If I were to buy a newer vehicle, I would look for something that is between 1 and 5 years old.

I get the depreciation on vehicles but i like to have vehicles for the long haul. I still have my first car since 08. When I bought my 1500 I didn’t know to much about diesels and there capabilities. Finances play a big part and like I said before I don’t need it , I just want it. If I can’t get a good deal then I’ll just suck it up.

With just a few exceptions in 40 years. CPOs or leftovers. If they aren’t dealing I’m not buying. The 3 exceptions, 94 impala ss, 01 Acura intagra type R, 06 Trailblazer SS. The impala I traded a dealer for a new Camaro for my son to go to college after owning for 7 years. The Trailblazer I got even money on a trade in three years later. The Acura I still have. It’s almost doubled in value in 17 years according to Hagerty collector car insurance. There are exceptions.

This is America. Buy what makes you happy. Don't live with the regret of settling for less than what you want. After all, you only live once - and none of us are getting any younger.

The problem you may have in finding a used truck like you want is going to be price, when I was looking to buy in 2011 a new Duramax was $48-58K  you could find used trucks from 08-10 but they wanted $40-50K for them and then you found the $25-35k trucks all had 100,000 miles or more on them, so my thought was that I might be buying someone elses problems why not buy new and let GM fix what goes wrong.  :jester:

I thought about maintenance and how to fix problems with the truck. I am not a mechanic but I can do a lot of stuff by my self. When it comes to timing, replacing lifters, swapping out cams then I’m out of my league. But changing out oils, adding a lift kit, putting bags in then yeah I can knock that out. The one thing I worry about is when something breaks can I afford to fix it. But then again if the truck goes down I have 2 other vehicles.

Man how old are you if it's going to be your 'last truck' ? I guess I do a ton of miles but, I can't see keeping a car more than 10 years but, I do about 25k miles a year...

I'm 33. first car Nissan Altima 08 75,xxx miles, 15 Silverado CCSB 27,xxxx miles and I just picked up a 03 Chevy S10 project truck. being in the military and getting deployed all the time lets me save these vehicles. plus I'm saving my car for my daughter when she can start driving. lol when I say last truck, I just don't like the way the new Chevy's are looking now. in my opinion there going away from how a truck is supposed to look.
