so currently I have a 15 Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 with about 28,000 miles on it. I am currently deployed overseas and I just love the way the new 18 duramaxs look and the capabilities it has! this would be my first ever diesel but the price on it is crazy. did some research and I could probably get the truck I want for 63 not including tax, title  etc. this is a big invest for me and I want this to be my last truck I buy since the direction of these new Chevy's that are coming out look like crap. I still owe about 20k on my current truck and I am going to end up trading it in. my best friend said he is willing to buy my truck from me at the KBB price which is around 35k. my question is it worth it to get a brand new duramax or a slightly used duramax?? now since I'm going from a LTZ model I want to get the same options that I got from my truck now and get the same with the new. I have a lot of thinking to do since I don't come back to the states until April. hopefully there's some crazy sales that is going on after April that I can jump on.

personally, I like to buy the (of course) cheapest/lowest mileage Certified Used truck/car I can find.

good luck in your search. I too, had a 14-15 1500 Z71 Silvy and made the switch to the 2500. I chose a 6.0 Denali as it was a much better fit and higher trim at the price I wanted, for me and my needs.

I hear you. I just need to find the right truck for me and if that means I have to go to texas to get a truck then ill do it. but that is as far as I will go since I'm in San Diego CA.

I looked at the Duramax trucks and drove several. If I had bought one it would be New but that is a personal preference and dependent upon financial resources I guess. I just do not haul enough to justify a rig like that. With the combination of a rough ride/high maintenance and just pure hassle factor of the diesel it pushed me back into a 6.2 Denali Ultimate. I even thought about buying a huge new fifth wheel camper (another huge anchor to drag around) to justify the truck. Luckily I came back to my senses before I spent all of my retirement funds. I guess what i am saying is it really does not matter what we think on the forum, you have to do some soul searching and be happy that you have spent yourself into oblivion and ruined your financial future on a truck (new or used) that will involve steep ownership costs and depreciate like a rock. If you want some advice go buy some income producing real estate instead. LOL

New would be nice, but I too suffered from sticker shock.

I searched for a while, and picked up a used 2015 HD gasser for $36k. MSRP for this was $53k, so I'm good with the 30k miles on a used one.

Financial resources is playing a big factor on my decision. I don’t haul anything but definitely want to end up getting a toy hauler when I get back. I do have other projects that I want to work on that I think is more important. I probably don’t need a diesel but I really want it lol. I am firm believer in it’s better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.  Like I said I have till April to figure this out.

I was in the same boat. Dont haul/pull anything other than a SXS and no need for one other than I just wanted another duramax (had an 09 years ago).  I chose used for a couple reasons, 1st we have no emissions here and I knew I was going to delete 2nd was the price new vs used. I paid less than half of the original price. Thats a hit I'm glad someone else took and not me.

Well I’m in Cali and they have a lot of emissions lol.

If I can get a used one with everything I want for cheap I’ll get it. But if I can’t I’ll check out true car and see if it’s cheap there. Or I can just work these salesman down and get a whole bunch of discounts. I like how I can double dip!

I bought a 2016 2500HD 6.0 with 16,000 miles on it. Someone had already taken the depreciation hit and I got a steal on it ($30K). I couldnt pass it up.

Used is the way to go.  Let the original purchaser take the hit on price.  Cargurus.com is a good place to look for vehicles.  You have plenty of time to look around.  Come spring there should be some great prices on used if not new since the 2019 will be out 100% by then.

That’s not bad at all. Going used looks better to me.

I’m about to check that site out. Thanks for the link!

Buy used, delete and tune as soon as possible, have a nice truck that performs great, and will still be cheaper than new. Ack, wait, didn't you say California? Forget the delete and all that.
