rjgogo Posted August 13, 2003 Posted August 13, 2003 I have a Suburban 2500 Thoughts on plowing snow with the truck. Dont really know th first thing but I have property that could use it. 7.5 or 8 foot? What else do I need to know
cowboy02 Posted August 13, 2003 Posted August 13, 2003 I would have some spare front end parts laying around the garage... Snow plows are extremly hard on front ends... Just something to keep in mind. Another thing you want a blade that is about the size of your front bumper, that way you can set the ofset to push the snow to the side of your ride
sonjaab Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 RJ.........Hey we got another "plowhead" here ! Welcome to GM trucks! Check out http://www.plowsite.com Those guys over there can put you in plow heaven with any question, problems and advise !...............geo
2000Plow4x4 Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 Ive got a 2000 2500. Plows awesome i do comercial places like BKs and Pizza Hut and so on love it. I have an 8 ft. plow wish i had an 9 ft. only because of big parking lots. My guess 7.6 ft. plow would be reasonable for a residential properties. Hope this helps, think snow
sonjaab Posted August 15, 2003 Posted August 15, 2003 2000.........Another plowhead ! 7.6 western with turkey wings here ! Check out http://www.plowsite.com .............geo
f7_ditch_jumper Posted August 15, 2003 Posted August 15, 2003 get a plow 6 to 12 inches wider than the front wheels. THis way when you tilt the plow your wheels wont be on the snow.
BadBowtie Posted August 17, 2003 Posted August 17, 2003 Have you ever plowed before? If its a HD get an 8-9' plow, if you are doing lots of commercial, get the 8.5V from western, definately money well spent. If you have zero experience, look in the phone book under "Snow Removal Contractors" and call one of them. Plowing witha truck if you have no idea what you are doing is going to tear a truck up fast, its not worth it just to plow a few properties, hire someone.... How close are you to Ill?
2000Plow4x4 Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 If you're doing commercial i wouldnt recomend a V Plow, more moving parts= more broken parts. and believe me it sucks when s**t breaks at 3 in the morning. just stick with a simple plow. Like Fisher or Meyer/Western. Like I said before i'm pleased with my truck and the 8' Fisher Minute Mount Plow. Taking on and off is a snap. Plus a local chevy dealer has a 2003 2500HD with a 7.5' Fisher. Good for home owners like yourself it sounds. Plus you dont want a big plow and finish the job quick. Have fun with it. My advice is just keep it simple-- straight blade not too big *****Think Snow******
wolfie Posted August 20, 2003 Posted August 20, 2003 I wouldn't say plowing is hard on a front end... I've been plowing with chevies since 1978 and never have had a problem... put at least an 8 ft. plow on it. I have the 8.5 ft Fisher V-Plow on my 02 2500HD and it works great!
sonjaab Posted August 20, 2003 Posted August 20, 2003 WOLFIE !.............Hey bro! Where the heck ya been? Hows that new rig doing you? Did you get a lot of "white gold" last winter ? WEFs99 Posted August 20, 2003 Posted August 20, 2003 We have a 7.5 Meyers on the 93 K2500LD xcab and it holds it well. Everything got a good workout last winter and the only problem was the heavy draw from the pump cooked the cheap battery. I was surprised how well the stock front end held the plow without any assistance like Timdens.
timk49 Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 zi'm in Southern California. I thought you were going to prepare the field for corn. Gues we dont think about snow much out here.
