'06 Silv 2500HD, front-end banging noise

I've been getting for a long time now banging noises from the front-end (best I can tell) driver's side when driving over rough road. Sometimes I can feel it through the steering wheel, but not always. Not sure if that is a sure sign of the intermediate steering shaft. It does seem like the noise goes away with a light application of the brakes. The truck has 126K miles, and ISS was replaced around 85K. Also, recently had four new shocks installed, but that didn't seem to affect the noise. The noise is a more metal on metal banging, not a dull clunking (which is how the ISS is usually described).

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Glen
