Silverado Hoods

Are the hoods on the 2018 Silverados steel or aluminum?

The hood on my ‘16 is aluminum so I’m sure the ‘18 is as well.

Don't know about your truck, but my '17 GMC 2500hd hood is steel, just put a magnet on it.

I just realized the OP was asking about the HD hood. Mine’s a 1/2 ton. My bad. Lol

Huh...never gave it much thought that they would be steel on HD but aluminum on 1/2 ton (even though hood styling is different).

Actually, l am talking about the good ole' Silverado 1500.

I had heard GM was going to aluminum hoods, but never found any definitive word on it. 

Don't know why l didn't think of the 'magnet test.' (If l could only remember everything l've learned.)

That is the T1XX generation of half tons. Will be interesting to see the materials usage when the HDs come out in 2020.
