MP3 WMA Compatible receivers.

Just thought I would check with you folks with regard to my search for a 4X50 watt MP3/WMA compatible deck for my 2002 GMC Sierra. I have seen several out there, and all seem pretty comparable, minus those funky organic screens. Do you have any recommendations as to which are a good choice these days? A cousin of mine bought a sweet Panasonic...holds 165 songs in MP3 format on a single CD. I just am interested in compiling my collections on MP3 format so when I put in the Jimmy Buffett CD and my passenger asks what Buffett songs I have, I can say "All of them"

Thanks for the help.

1st post...Yay me!

Anyway, I've had the Pioneer DEH5500MP in my '99 CK for about a month and I love it! I currently have a cd in it with 154 mp3s...access time between folders and tracks it fairly quick. The 5500 is the best Pioneer that does not have the organic display.

Second that for the Pioneer 5500, I found one for $165 at a site called gopcplus.com. I fit 177 songs on one CD. The equalizer, sound field, etc. options are very "customizable" if thats a real word. I really like it, I compared it to Kenwoods and others and thought this was the best deal. I put some Polk speakers in as well and it sounds really good.

Alpine's CDA-9815 all the way. Its pricey, but check eBay and you can get it for a steal.

Alpine makes some great stuff...... I would have to say that they are my favorite deck manufacture and they've outdone themselves on there newest MP3 decks...

ALPINE ALL THE WAY..........

If you like the 9831, check out the 9835. That is going in next. Unfortunately, I have all Sony gear right now and will end up purchasing the Alpine XM tuner as well...*sigh*

oh well, gotta love it and at least I am not buying drugs with my money, right? :jester:

Ditto on the 9815... I just bought the same deck. Was fortunate enough that my local stereo guy had ONE left and was looking to unload it, so I got it for a steal.

The 2004 replacement for the 9815 is the 9835. REALLY slick deck, VERY nice, VERY CLEAR display. Not all cartoony like some other decks I've seen. All business. It's also big bucks IMO... which is why I opted for the 9815 instead.

Note both of those decks are pretty much Alpine's top of the line CD players (the 9815 was their top-of-the-line in 2003, and the 9835 replaces the 9815 for 2004.) They have a lot of features your average guy won't use... custom EQs, time correction, etc. Might be overkill for what you're looking for.

My next deck is going to be an Alpine DVA-7996, if for no other reason than to be able to play DVD+RWs encoded with MP3s. :jester: (Yes, I have verified it works, my buddy runs this deck in his car.) I can put my WHOLE music collection on 2 or 3 discs.

I had a CDA-9827 (I think) for a few weeks in my old truck before buying my Sierra. That thing would rock! Blew away my old Alpine deck. MP3 is nice but I'd rather have a CD changer. The song I was always looking for was about 100 songs away from the one I just listened to. LOL

My first Alpine was a 7864 and it rocked!Sold it to a friend of mine who installed it in his weekend driver (SVO Mustang) and bought a 9827.

I traded the truck in not long afterward and have been missing my Alpine so I have a 9830 coming in,supposed to be here tomorrow actually.I plan to install it this weekend as long as the weather doesn't turn to crap so I'll take some pics when finished.

Oh and btw, stereo, mounting kit, harness and antenna adapter=a grand total of $292 shipped to my house. Not too bad.

The sound that Alpine gives you from the head units is nice, but I think I'm going back to a Premier deck when it comes time to buy a new one. I have an Alpine 7894 that I've had for two years now, and I paid right at $400 for it then. The display is very lacking. It has very little display options, and it's not even a full dot-matrix display. I like the eq and x-over options better on the premiers also. One more thing, when it's even semi-cold outside, the display on my alpine moves really slow, until the unit itself warms up, and then it's normal again. I really like the premiers because you can control the entire deck from the remote, the alpines you cannot. I do like the design of the alpine decks better though...they look really nice and clean.
