justinE Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 Just got mine ( 2015 5.3 Sierra ) out the shop for a converter replace and trans rebuild. $2189, total for uninstalling rebuild and reinstalling. Drove home fine, next day going to work, starts to shutter again and making a noise now. Will be taking it back to the shop tomorrow. This isn’t the only problem I’ve had or am having with this truck. Seriously thinking these trucks are garbage.
C Dave Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 Transmissions rebuilds are very involved, so many seals and o rings. Bushings have special grooves for oil passages, there is so many chances for something to be miss aligned. And since you are having issues so soon after rebuild its very possible the rebuilder is to blame
flyingfool Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 (edited) Anyone try installing the ZL1 torque converter yet? yes, attention to detail is the main focus point on all rebuilds. you can see 90% of the quality of work just by looking at a SHop owners garage. Luckily he backs his work with a guarantee so this is on him. Aggravated is an understatement, just wish us working people could buy quality vehicles that last.

Reading most of this thread, its in regards to 8 speed shudder. a ZL1 6 speed converter won't fix an 8 speed issue. That video is ZL1 converter swapping a 6L80 in a Chevy SS. flyingfool Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 (edited) so when GM discontinued the 6 speed, they also discontinued the ZL1 driveline in the 8 speed cars? didnt the 2016 SS Camaro has the 8 speed https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a15106129/2016-chevrolet-camaro-ss-automatic-test-review/ i would guess its a 2000-2400 stall on the SS, but ask around or look it up Edited September 17, 2020 by flyingfool
