The Mini Cooper

I thought it was pretty cool when BMW decided to re-engineer the old Mini Cooper.  There was a small supplement in this months MotorTrend mag for them, and I showed it to my wife and said this little car is "cool".  They were just released in the USA a few weeks ago.

A very reputable used car dealer by my house has one sitting out front.  It has 76 miles on it.  I asked my wife if she noticed it sitting there.  She said she had but didn't realize it was a "Mini".

She just called me from work a few minutes ago and the first thing she said was "I sat in it...".  I asked if she meant the "mini" and she said "yes".  She is more in love with the "Mini" than she was when the PT Cruiser and the new "Bug" came out.  I think the cars are cool but I don't need three brand new vehicles in my driveway!!!  The one in town here looks like this one...

Yep...I've been keeping my eyes on this thing for awhile.  My pick would be the Cooper S.  160hp in that little package for around $20,000.  After the "newness" wears off, its gonna be a great weekend auto-x car.  I got a chance to see one in person two years ago at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix.  BMW/Mini Club of America (or something like that ) brought one over for a display with the old original Mini's.

I'm shocked that this vehicle is sitting at a used car lot.  The waiting list at BMW dealership near me is crazy!  Are you sure it was for sale and was not owned by the dealer?

Oh BTW....does anyone recognize that beast in the background.  The yellow E46 M3......mmmmmm....<wiping drool from my mouth>

This is actually the second one he had.  He sold one last week, and bought it at an auction.

He is asking over sticker price for the car.  He said $21500 would be the lowest price he would go.  The way this car is equipped it probably stickers around $18K.  He paid over that at auction for it...  This car has 76 miles on it and I believe it came up from Pgh.

I'm not crazy about the mini's, but for a lightweight, 160 hp and a six-speed is d### respectable.  I sat in one at the NY auto show, and can't say I was impressed.  Nothing really against it, it just isn't my type of vehicle.  A lot better than rice, though.

I am all about big American muscle as the next guy around here, however, this is a car I like, and it helps that it is made by the foremost car maker in the world.  The whole package is more attractive than the New “Bug”, and as attractive, if not more so, than the PT Cruiser.  The Mini is just one of those cars that looks cool, and with the S package has the performance to match.  Hope either MT or C&D does a test between the Cooper S, the supercharged Bug , and the new supercharged PT Cruiser.

Saw one yesterday they are pretty neat looking, the local used import seller has one.  They also got in a white Hummer and what looked like a camo, surplus military Hummer.
