GM/Borla Exhaust on 2018 6.2 Silverado 1500

I posted this question on the exhaust discussion pinned, but also wanted to post it here for more visibility.

 

I'm new to this forums and have a question relating to the GM/Borla exhaust.  My truck is a 2018 1500 Silverado LTZ 6.2 Crew Cab SWB.  I've spoken to customer service at https://accessories.chevrolet.com and then I've also spoken to a dealership near me and received conflicting answers.  I was interested in putting on Part No. 19303345, but the parts dept. at my dealership says it won't fit and chevrolet.com says it will fit.

 

Does anyone know which information is correct?  Only reason I am looking at this particular exhaust is I'd like the dual side exit, quietness of the touring muffler, but most of all the flapper to prevent the chopping in V4.  And that if I go with GM parts my warranty stay completely intact.

 

Any information that can be provided is greatly appreciated.  When I do a VIN lookup it says it won't fit and when I put in the specs of my truck I'm told it does fit.

I don't see why it wouldn't work... That PN is for a CC/SB 6.2L ...No reason why it wont work..

 

For what its worth, Im using a Corsa system on mine that was from my 2011 GMT-900 series trucks... bolted right up, no issues

Thanks for the info.  My thought is it should work as well.  How do you like the Corsa? Any of that helicopter noise people say they hear without the flange when AFM kicks in?  I've read great things about Corsa, but a lot of my long trips will be with the wife and kids so a loud droning exhaust would make for an unpleasant time.

 

This is my first new vehicle ever that is worth doing any upgrades to, so I want to do it right.

 

Btw I love the color on your Sierra.

Thank You!! In my opinion its the best looking color out there for these trucks... I was dead set on red until I saw a blue one in person. It sold me on the color.

 

I cannot recommend Corsa enough to anyone!, Ive used a lot of different exhaust systems over the past 20 years and I will never buy anything else but a Corsa from now on...

 

Like I said before,  I put a "DB" system (Corsas cheaper grade of stainless line)  on my 2011 6.2L truck and absolutely loved it... I took that exhaust off the truck before I sold it. When I was looking for an exhaust system for my 2018 I couldn't find any with a split dual rear outlet... I did some digging and found that Lingenfelter had Corsa make exhaust systems for their "Reaper" truck they made in 2014-2016... Since they don't make those trucks anymore they were clearanceing the exhaust systems they had for the 6.2L trucks.. I bought one and when I got it, compared it to the system from my 2011... They were the exact same thing from mid pipe to tail pipes, same bends same hangers, everything..., but with a different Lingenfelter specific muffler, that didn't have any of the RSC technology... So I put on the system with the old "DB" muffler ( with the RSC technology)  from my 2011..

 

The truck, is quite loud outside on start up and when you are in the gas, but its a good loud, not an annoying loud...Inside the cab cruising down the highway is as quiet as it was stock...The only time you really hear the exhaust is when pulling a hill or something, and even then, its not drone , yes you can hear the exhaust,  but its not drone, its a clean crisp exhaust sound without anything pulsing through your head...

 

We took the truck on a 12 hour trip to Tennessee from Pennsylvania and back with my wife and two kids ( 10 and 7) and everybody was able to sleep in the truck ... At highway speeds inside is stock like quietness....I also don't get any V4 chopper sounds either, depending on load and speed when its in v4 there may be a very slight rumble from it being in v4, but its really not a pronounced chop or  anything to be upset about , and honestly it doesn't spend a ton of time in v4 doing 75 anyway..

 

This is the quietest/loudest system you can have,  loud outside where you want it and quiet inside with crisp exhaust sound when in the throttle, and NO DRONE!

    • Monthly payment is only part of the equation. With today's prices and interest rates, I'd look at the total monthly cost: payment, insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, and expected repairs. A vehicle that fits comfortably into your budget is usually the better choice than stretching for a higher trim. I've also kept my vehicles longer over the past few years. New cars have gotten expensive enough that driving one for 10+ years, while staying on top of maintenance, often ends up being the most cost-effective approach.
    • 10 Ford and Chevy engines proven to reach 300,000 miles   You may note a common 3K OCI on this list of gas motors. I skipped over the diesels. Dh'O. 
    • Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.    
    • apparently CA smog is (or at least was)  checking that the vehicle is using the oem and/or a ca smog approved tune, so I expect you'll fail inspection doing it.
    • yes, leaking exhaust will mess up o2 sensor readings, which in turn messes up fuel trims.
