Afm delete still throwing check engine codes after tune

Recommended Posts

I have 2009 GMC that has the 5.3 and we swapped all of the afm parts out of it and it has been tuned by and racing also where we bought the kit and it is still throwing an error code for the oil pressure solnoid that we also replaced thinking that it was bad but it is running 38lbs of oil pressure cold but when it warms up it is only around 20lbs of oil pressure on the new oil pump and we can't figure what else would be wrong with it.

If the screen is not there, and you already replaced the oil pressure sender, and the oil pump - I would suspect that you have problems with the main bearings maybe? The low oil pressure needs to be addressed. As for the screen being gone, you might run into lifter problems. A friend removed his screen 6 months ago, no problems so far. If it were my truck, I would put a new screen in, and change the oil every 3K with full synthetic. On the other hand, cars didn't even used to have oil filters at all - but of course they didn't last all that long either.

So could this problem be beacuse of the standard oil pump we put in it l, because it USD to have a high pressure oil pump in it and we changed it out for the standard one because it was suggested, so could it be because the ECU is not set for the standard oil pump. Thanks for Al of the help.

We didnt see no filter in the old valley pan or the new valley pan, but he said when he ordered the kit it said it was going to come with a low pressure oil pump from Amsterdam racing, so should we juat put the old high pressure oil pump ack in it. Thanks for the help.

Does your motor have an aluminum block or an iron block?  The aluminum motors already have a high volume, low pressure oil pump, it's the Melling M365 aka GM# 12612289.

Maximum oil pressure hot is 33 psi and minimum for LS engines is 6 psi @ 1000 rpms.

Check the pressure with a mechanical gauge or scan tool, mid 20s is fine.  Did they replace the pickup tube o-ring too?  If not seated or wrong size, that can bleed off pressure too.  So can worn cam bearings and worn main bearings.

It is an aluminum block and we changed out the high pressure oil pump because it said is was suggested that you don't need the high pressure oil pump if you do the afm delete. The problem is that it is throwing the check engine code saying that the oil pressure sensor is bad when we just replaced it with a new one.

The LC9, which is your engine, never came from the factory with a high pressure oil pump.  Regardless, if the code is saying the sensor is bad, replace the sensor.  New things can be defective or just not compatible if it is not GM OE or ACDelco.  Do you know the exact code being thrown?
