Power Steering Rack Seal

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a 99' Silverado that has a minor power steering fluid leak. The leak is coming from the boot where the tie rod enters the rack. I would like to replace the seal myself, but have never attempted any work on a steering system. The main questions I have, how can you disconnect the tie rod from the rack? Is there any special tools required? Do you need to remove the whole rack from the vehicle, or can it be done in place? Any suggestions are welcome!
