OEM trailer brake controller

Has anyone installed the factory trailer brake controller in a T1 that did not have one from the factory? Is the harness already there and are any BCU updates necessary?

If it is wired up like the last two generations; nobody would go through the machinations to do it, way too involved and dealers won't do it either.  Yesterday on a sister forum, a parts counter man was telling us how he would sell the ITBC and folks would wire it up to the blunt cut wires under the dash.  This gives limited functionality as it is not totally integrated like the factory original.
