P1682 Error Code on 2014 Silverado 1500

Very cold here this morning (-15) and I remote started my truck with the factory key fob and while sluggish it started.  15 minutes later I tried to restart again and it wouldn't.  Went out and started it with the key and CEL was on.  Let it sit till it got to a balmy 0 and just went out and restarted it again without issue, drove it around for about 20 mins and then read the code.  It came out as a P1682 ignition 1 switch 2.

Found a few other threads here with this code and cold weather, but no real final resolution on it.  Does anyone have any thoughts on this?  Of course my extended warranty just expired a week ago...

Thanks in advance,

Here ya go...

Condition/Concern

Some owners may comment of an intermittent crank / no start concern. When checking for DTCs, the ECM will have a P1682 set.

If after normal diagnosis a correction is not found, this concern could be caused by an issue with the KR75 Engine Controls Ignition Relay #70 (ECM Relay).

Recommendation/Instructions

If no other root cause is identified through normal diagnosis, replace the KR75 Engine Controls Ignition Relay # 70 (ECM Relay located in the UBEC) with part number 13595908

Thanks.  Is this from personal experience that you recommend this?  Just trying to wrap my head around the cold start, relay replacement connection, or if there is no connection and it was just coincidence.

Thanks,

I write service for a Chevy/Cadillac dealer. Personally, I would let it go for a little bit and if it happens again, pick up the relay. It would cost just a few bucks.

Thanks again for the info.  It hasn't done it since the real bitter cold has moved on so I'll go with your advice and wait a bit to see if it comes back.

Unrelated to anything electronic, some have reported issues with the exhaust flapper valve near the muffler freezing shut.

This can cause a CEL and no to hard start issues in extreme temps.
