Tail Light replacement bulb

Has anyone upgraded the bulbs to LEDs? I removed the tail light but I didn’t see where I could replace the bulb. Did GM lock us out? I was looking to get some brighter white LEDs to see better in reverse.

The Reverse Bulbs can be replaced by LEDs. GM Specs....

 

Rear Bulbs (High Country/LTZ/RST/Custom/Custom TB/LT TB)
        Stop/Turn/Marker - LED
        Reverse - W16W or 1200LM White High Power LED T15 921
        License Plate - 194

 

I used the bulbs from....

 

Reverse Lights LED Auxito Led T16, W16W T15, 912, 921, White, 12v, www.auxito.com

 

Others have used other types of LED Bulbs.

It seems that the Silverado has different tail lights than the GMC Sierra's.

 

I also took my tail lights off and the bulbs are not accessible. They are sealed inside the assembly.

 

I want to swap the factory incandescent reverse lights for LED's.

Yeah, the Silverado taillights are different. Your SLT already has LED reverse lights so you kinda wasted your time trying to replace them.

Check your build sheet, you may already have LEDs in your taillights. I know my AT4 came with the LEDs and the only incandescent bulbs on the exterior of the truck were the license plate bulbs.

I saw this on the GMC site and assumed they were incandescent..

That’s for the SLE. SLT/AT4/Denali have LED everything except plate lights.

That's good news.. I'm glad I didn't dig too deep into it.. The tail lights came off rather easily with just 2 screws and a slight tug..

 

Where can I find a "Build Sheet" for my truck?

I replaced the license plate bulbs with relative ease..

The reverse lights look as bright as my new LED tag lights..

You can email [email protected] with your VIN for the build sheet. It’s not going to list things like taillights but will give you all the options. As I said, LED reverse lights are standard on SLT and up.

 

They are not very bright but I’m sure there are regulations GM had to comply with, along with not washing out the backup camera with reverse lights that are too bright.
