Morimoto Fog Light Failure

Hey everybody.  I was part of the group buy 2 years ago for the Morimoto fog lights.  Loved them since I installed them.  They were a b!tch to install, but that's not a fault of the lights, just my own issue!  Anywho...

I recently noticed my passenger side fog light started to flicker.  I live out in the country, and with the dark roads I travel it was easy to notice.  It didn't go out completely, but just flickering between normal brightness and maybe half brightness.  I emailed The Retrofit Source, and they were fine about getting it replaced.  It took a couple of weeks before I had a chance to look at it (primarily because of the weather), and as it turns out, the seal between the factory wiring harness and the fog light pigtail failed.  The prongs on the fog light were corroded away (pics below).  I have some marine quality butt connectors, so I'm going to bypass the connector and wire them directly to the factory harness and then add some additional heat shrink just to be sure.  The drivers side was fine, but the passenger side...not so much.

Anyhow, if you have these lights, you might want to check the connector and be sure you don't have the issue that I did.

I think one of the tabs broke off my connector before I even had them installed. Aside from that, all other Morimoto wiring is top notch stuff. I just put some dielectric grease in all my long-term connectors and then wrap electrical tape around the connectors to keep them clean and connected. But thanks for the reminder because I had GM replace my bumper under some old guy's insurance when he hit me at the pumps. I will re-grease and seal the connections again because I can guarantee they didn't do it.

doesn’t look like the seal failed, looks like it was not in period

That could be.  The drivers side was fine.  Passenger side?  Not so much.

If I remember correctly they had an orange rubber seal on the connectors. it had 2 or 3 "ribs" on the seal that would compress together when you clicked in the connecters.

That seems to be the weak link on those lights. I’ve read about quite a few failing because of the corroded pins...
