Adding XM to Bose

My Sierra has the Bose 6 speaker, 6 CD system in it, with the steering wheel controls but no XM. Is it possible to add XM to this radio like some of the other GM systems had, w/o replacing the radio, etc.? ie like a plug in module??

On a side note, does anyone know the specs of this Bose system, like watts/ch etc.?? I think there is a sub burried somewhere in the cab for it

Thanks

yeah you can get the FM modulate version....the box goes under your seat and then you tune your radio to a station usually something like 89.1 or something and you get it.....then you mount a little face plate that has the channel info on your dash somewhere. it's a good set up...my dad has one.

XM Sat

You might want to look at the one that you can take from the car to your house too. I would love you have it in my house, but I am to lazy to go and buy it.

As of now inorder to use the factory 2003 head unit you would need the oem delphi/delco XM receiver and the oem wire harness. You also would need an XM antena and a pcm update.

I have been trying to get a oem Xm receiver and wire harness for months. At this time Gm isn't selling the parts.

Thanks for the info. I was looking to do what Ricks said, basically add it as a "factory" item but unfortunately it does not seem to be possible yet. Did they give any kind of time table when it may be possible?

No, infact the parts department in two GMC dealers that i have gone to, don't have a clue about the XM receivers

Don't know what the exact specs are for the system, however, 2 things I do know:

1. There is a sub and amp mounted in the center console (closer to the floor of the cab).

2. The speakers aren't great, Bose or not. They're paper cones and tweeters. My Sony Xplods and Kenwood's would beat the pants off these things in a sec. This is what happens when ya tear the door apart ....

Oh I know what you mean, the Bose name did not impress me but it was already there and for the time being sounds ok so not going to change anything on it. I remember when shopping for speakers for the surround sound system, the wife like the little Bose system.... we ended up with Klipsch

Still would like to find the specs on it if they are out there. Bose site didn't say much

I spoke tothe parts department at my local dealer today.

He said that the headunits themselves are generally pretty expensive but it didn't prepare me for the price he found for me.

Afte much searching and asking questions , he said he could get me the XM receiver in a few days but it wuld be $925!!!:):lol:

He didn't advise buying a new head unit since the radio houses the brains of most of the onboard electronics.

I guess its back to wondering if it is worth getting XM going through an FM modulator????

Man that's insane! The XM option from the factory is about $325.00. I'm still looking around for the XM receiver and harness. :D

The easiest solution to add XM is to buy a roady or commander unit and use the fm modulator-these are going for $110-$150 at Circuit City or Best Buy right now. Another solution to look at is this one from Soundgate:

XM Satellite Radio Tuners Part# PIOGM1

I think somebody said that they finally started shipping these. It will let you hook up a Pioneer XM tuner to your factory deck. I'm not sure if it actually displays the song title on the head unit, but it's something to look at. Not sure what they wnat for the adapter, but I'd guess it would be around $100-$150 and then the Pioneer tuner is about the same.

I understand the FM Mod hookup does not sound too good.  I'll take a look at that page and see what they have

Thanks

I've heard the newer fm nods sound pretty good, but I'm sure not quite as good as through line input. Good information at:

Lots of reviews and a good place to ask questions.

    • Howdy folks,   Recently I pulled a heated steering wheel and clock spring out of a 2015 Sierra All Terrain (part numbers coming soon - will have to disassemble), and just installed it on my 2016 Sierra WT (as base model as it gets).   On install, I noticed that I’m missing the connector often tucked behind the dash for the heating element.     No problem… or so I thought.   I used an “Add-A-Fuse” at my heated steering wheel fuse location, which has voltage, but no wires. I ran it to the positive of the heated steering wheel (Violet/White), and took black to ground.   Hooked up the battery, turned the truck on - no heated steering wheel. No button backlights. Was pleased to see that my cruise control was working though.   Read a post suggesting reversing polarity, so I gave it a shot. Violet and White to ground, Black to power.    Aha! Heat! But I seemingly can’t turn it off AND still no backlights on any of the buttons.    Checked all fuses, everything is still in good order. I’m stumped.   Does anyone have any insight? If so, please share!
    • I'm about 1800 miles into my last oil change, and yesterday a message appeared saying oil life was at 77%. Not sure why it popped up but I think all of these electronics could be susceptible to solar flares or somesuch. I change my oil right at 3K each time, and that was the first time in 10870 miles that message came up. Strange thing is that it showed on the screen at all since I don't drive with that sort of info displayed on the DIC.

    • Checked the pads today and there's plenty of meat on them. If the message keeps coming up, I'll just answer YES that the pads were replaced and wait for the squeal.
    • Welcome to the Forum! Always post the code definitions along with the codes. there are over 18000 possible codes, no one remembers them all and most will skip over your post rather than look them up
