Firestone lawsuit

I got a 7 page letter in the mail today and it appears that through all the legal mumbo jumbo, that I'm included in a class action lawsuit against Firestone Tires and may be entitled to some compensation.

Did anyone else get this letter?

I'm not sure how my name was involved but it is one of two ways... If you got a letter too, then it is most likely due to the fact that we both had the P265/75/16 Wilderness tires on our 1/2 ton trucks. If you didn't get the letter, then I think I got it because I complained up the Firestone ladder until someone listened. I told them that a P-rated tire is unacceptable for carrying the loads and towing capacities of my truck. I finally got Firestone to give me full credit on the Wilderness tires towards a set of Bridgestone Duelers. I ended up paying about $130 for 5 new tires mounted and balanced.

I'm curious about this... :(

I got mixed info. When I checked the F-stone site back in the day, it seemed they were only replacing 235's or stuff that was on Fords. The guy at the local tire shop later asked me why I didn't have my 265's replaced and I told him I wasn't aware that they were covered under the recall.

Who is the letter from? A law firm?

There are actual several class-actions against Bridgestone/Firestone covering ATX, Wilderness and other models. Not just on Fords either.

not try to argue here BUT: Didnt GM make that decision and not Firestone?

Yeh, I would blame GM, Ford, Dodge etc for putting P rated tires on 1/2 pickups.

But, although many would consider them not to be ideal; they are capable of the loads the vehicle is rated for. Consider that many of the big-ol body on frame passenger cars of not too many years ago weighed as much as 1/2 ton trucks and towed big honking trailers all with P rated tires. This isn't too say I think it is a good idea, given that the P rated tire will have a lower safety margin for overloads and particularly for underinflation conditions given that trucks and SUVs have a higher centre of gravity that puts higher lateral loads on the sidewalls of the tires.

I agree that GM shouldn't have put the P-Rated tires on the trucks.

The letter was sent to me by Order Of The Court.

The law firm handling the case for the plaintiff is Provost Umphry Law firm LLP from Beaumont, TX. The case is being handled in the District Court of Jefferson County Texas.

I think everyone who has the WILDERNESS AT P265/75R16 tires on their truck is eligable for compensation or tire replacement.

Read more here... Firestone Settlement and read the Q/A section that explains about getting new tires.

Interesting - I got 60K Hard miles out of my 265 Firestone Wilderness ATs

d**n! I only got 23k out of mine... rotating them too... that has to be a record for the number of miles on those f-stones. :D

I got about 73K out of my original front Wilderness AT's. The rears were replaced at about 35K. I replaced all four at the 73K mark. Tires were never rotated either. Granted, they were wore down to 2/32. I think they gave good traction and a nice ride. I would have replaced all four with Wilderness AT's again, but they changed the tread design and it didn't appeal to me anymore.

I know I wont be getting any were near the 60,000 miles that you got. :P I have about 22,000 on mine now and there is a belt seperating on one of them and the others are wearing "weird". I have had the truck aligned 2x this year, and it is perfect. They are chopped unevenly, one part of the tire will be chopped on the inside, another part of the same tire will be chopped on the outside. Regardless, i will be changing them as soon as I find the money to get my Dueler A/T revo's.

Read the lawsuit and one of the reasons this tire is included is because firestone failed to put "strapping" in the belts. That is why this lawsuit is saying Firestone should/will replace your tires...

There is a link in my previous post for the www.firestonesettlement.com .

I'm still not exactly sure what it is about, but it seems like it has been settled for the most part... the question is what to do now.
