HeadnSouth Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 03 Sierra with towing package. I'd like to add a LED light bar to the rear bumper. If anyone has done this I'd like some info on how you did it. I've read multiple posts on using the cable on the side of the main fuse block. I would like to know what the hanging wire shown in the pic does and can I some how use it. I really don't want to pull a wire from the dash to the rear. Thanks, any help would be appreciated. Quote
dsr611 Posted June 26, 2019 Posted June 26, 2019 There is a "pigtail" sold that allows you to plug in an accessory to the trailer connector and still be able to use the connector to plug a trailer into it...you unplug the connector going into the back of the receptacle, plug in the pigtail, then plug the trailer wiring connector into one end of the pigtail and your light into the other end http://www.reeseprod.com/products/electrical-wiring/t-one-connector/tow-harness-t-connector-assembly/!FQHI|fPlghJZkcriTmM5EU!cq866og7v6VwOjzaM2w= Quote
HeadnSouth Posted June 27, 2019 Author Posted June 27, 2019 Great info but what powers it? Where can Install a switch preferably in the dash to control the power? Quote

What kind of light bar are you talking about? The type that goes under the tailgate, with brake light, tail light, turn signals, and reverse, or the "white" led bars like people put over the windshield? We may be referring to two different lightbars. If it's the kind under the tailgate, power comes from the brake light, tail light, turn signal, and reverse circuits and comes on when those lights are on. If it's the other type (I've never owned one of these), you'll have to run a power wire from a fuse to a switch in the cab, and from the switch to the light, if you want to turn it on/off manually. If not, you'll still have to run a wire from the fuse block or battery to the light Quote
HeadnSouth Posted June 27, 2019 Author Posted June 27, 2019 I'm looking to install just like the second pic you posted it draws 5 amps. I trailer my boat and need lights occasionally. Quote
sefiroxx Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 There is a switch that controls a light on the cab to light up the bed. You could tap that line for a relay feed or convert the cab light to led and run both directly. Quote
