Screw fell off my steering wheel area not sure what it’s for

2014 Silverado LT crew cab 

i went to the store parked the truck hear my steering wheel make a weird noise but didn’t think nothing of it, sounded like metal hitting like the wheel didn’t lock then it locked, ok well when I got back n the truck this piece fell from the steering wheel area or steering column area anybody know what it is? Has a screw and a spring and grease af with a rubber gasket around it. Is it something important?

Did you ever find out what it was? Same thing just happened to my sons truck.
