I have read alot of posts about 6.0 Powerstroke problems, but I hadn't seen any in person, until yesterday. While leaving Bass Pro Shops(getting ready for deer season), a guy pulled in with a 2003 F-250 ext. cab Lariat 6.0 4x4. Everytime he hit the gas a big puff of blue smoke came from the exhaust. This suprised me because it still had the dealer tag. Has anyone else seen problems like this in person with the new 6.0s?

My father-in-law has 10K+ miles on his F350 Powerstroke. The engine has been recalled four times for computer related issues...and it still doesn't work. His engine problems appear when cold (rough idle and operation).

He hasn't said anything about oil burning problems...but the cloud you saw could have been related to the same cold engine problem

I like Ford's alot but I wouldn't buy a new PSD 6.0 right now.

According to the chatter on the Ford forums most of the problems fall into two major categories: Computer related fuel injection issues, and some kind of problem with engine seals that let fuel leak into the engine oil. I don't know alot of technical stuff about diesels and don't care to so that's about as much as I can say without sounding too ignorant.

On the other hand, their new torqueshift 5sp automatic tranny seems to be a good option will next to no issues and it getting good reviews in all the magazines and forums.
