Audio upgrade ideas for 2002 Tahoe

I'm reposting this to correct the topic title, in which I included the wrong year for my Tahoe. I have an '02.

I've reviewed most of the posts in this forum regarding audio upgrades but want to ask for help for my specific situation.

Many of the upgrades and related advice here sound awesome, but I want to keep it simple. After much debate, I've decided to keep my stock HU, sacrificing the beneifits of an aftermarket model for being able to keep both OnStar and the rear controls.

I just hooked up the FM modulated Pioneer XM receiver to the stock HU and WOW! I'll go along with the other fans here and say it's great! I still have to finish coming up with a "near custom" install of the display, but it is a great addition already. It really works flawlessly - and I have not been disappointed with the FM connection.

Now - what else should I do? I already plan to swap out the front and rear door speakers - that's a given.

How much help would an aftermarket amp be? How does it connect to the stock HU? Would I look for a 2 channel or a four channel?

I might be interested in a swap of the sub, but only in the stock location - I don't really want any enclosures or other distriactions in the back. I'm really not interested in "thumping" bass - just the best sound I can get as easy as possible.

What are my best bets to optimize my sound withing the limits of the stock HU and stock speaker locations?

Thanks for any help!

Barry
