2008 Silverado 5.3 4x4 130k.  Had no issues other then vent leak. Replaced gas cap and purge valve but that’s not my issue. Never had a problem starting. Haven’t replaced the starter and done any electrical work. Went to eat last night (2.4 miles from home) after eating left to come home. Pulled in driveway and smelt burning wires. Opened the hood and I thought it was on fire. My son came out and ran to get a wrench and undone the battery cables. I had put it in neutral and pushed away from the house Incase it caught fire. Today when I put the ground cable on and touch the positive to the battery you can hear the starter click and try to engage. Doesn't matter if the key is in the ignition or out. Doesn't matter if the key is in the ON position. Doesn't matter if I pull it into gear. Same thing as soon as I touch the positive cable it clicks and if I leave it hooked up it starts to get hot and if I where to leave I assume it would start to smoke aging. Any advice is appreciated in advance thank you.
