Cheap D5S bulbs, anyone try them?

I see some people mention the 200-400 D5S bulb upgrades for 2016-2018 Silverados with the HID lights. Recently I have seen some $30-50 kits on eBay.

Anyone try them?  $400 for HID ballasts and bulbs in 2019 in ludacris

I had some DDM Tuning ones they were like $200, probably the same ones that are on ebay for cheap, these had some generic "DDM Tuning" stickers on them.  Really liked the 4500k color on them, had the occasional time one didn't start up over the last year, way better output than stock.  I upgraded to these about a month ago: https://www.distantxtremes.com/store/p1164/D5S-Hylux-HID-Upgrade-System.html#/

5500k a little bluer but output still way better than the stock bulb and I have not had a single incident with one not firing.  They come on a little slower, but I think that's why the come on every time.  Only have to modify the dust cap, cut a hole in it to get wires out.

So that still uses a remote ballast? Looks like they are just adapting the D5S to work like the older HID kits.

I assume the DDM was plug and play?

I'd really like to stay in the 4500k maybe 5000k temp but the DDMs are also over priced.

I paid less than than that including a projector retrofit.

high quality bulbs and ballasts are more like $150, no idea where you came up with those prices.

Do yourself a favor and avoid the headaches. Get 35w hylux ballast and morimoto bulbs, highly recommend our member “fastws6” (i think thats his name , have to look in headlight master thread)

he sells headlight upgrade parts and gives a forum discount

Shoot, so sorry, i was not aware that your truck is totally different.

with most vehicles with projectors you can just slap in a bulb and wire in a ballast

Yeah I’d probably try the ebay thing too since it looks super easy to just throw the oem ones back in if you have a problem.
