Transfer case issue

Hey thanks for giving me your time. Any comments are greatly appreciated.

 

My 2000 GMC Sierra only goes into 4wheel drive auto.

 

I've confirmed the differential solenoid works.

 

I have taken off the motor encoder and I ran it through the different settings!!!!! So why is it bad to run it without it being on the transfer case!????

 

It went through all the different settings so I would think it was working properly (at least before I took it off)

 

I moved the shaft on the t case into each hear also.

 

What does the cable do that runs into the t case.

 

Anyway, it's not going into 4hi or 4 low. Does anybody have any insight?
