Spacers question

I'm trying to understand wheel spacers.  It looks like for very thin spacers you can still use factory studs to mount your wheels.  I've seen someone with 6mm spacers like this.   But then there is a point where you have to bolt them on to your rotor studs and then use the spacer studs to mount the wheels.  It seems like 1.5" is the minimum this will work before you need to chop off some of the rotor stud.  And it seems like there also has to be a sweet spot where it just wont work at all due to the spacer being too thin or the mounting nut being too fat even if you did chop lugs.

 

So where is the break over point where it is truly just a spacer (use stock lugs) vs becoming an adapter (use spacer lugs)?  I guess maybe it's also dependent on the wheel clamping thickness to be mounted? 

 

For the sake of arguement I'm interested in doing this with factory RST 20s with a half in spacer.  Will that work?

Your wheels won't be hub centric anymore using a 1/2" spacer and will now be lug centric.  GM truck wheels don't like being lug centric. What exactly are you trying to achieve?

Spacing to run 305/55/r20 on stock rims.  Ive seen TB owners do it with +20 offset 9" rims and no rub.  However these are +27 I think. 

 

I thought that you could get spacers from Bora that were both hub AND lug centric?

On a 1/2" spacer, the inside bore that fits over the factory hub will be hub centric but the part that fits in the factory wheel wont be.

I’m gonna throw some bora 1.25 on this weekend ( trail boss )  I’ll let you all know if studs need to be cut . I don’t think they would with the wheel pockets hopefully my measurements backs that up lol .

Cool. On stock rims?  What tires will you run?

So the bora 1.25 spacers fit no issues with pockets in stock 18 trailboss wheels

Cool!  Do they have the lip to keep them hub centric?  Looks great
