98 C1500 Shift Lever Moving Freely Without Engaging

I have a 1998 Chevrolet C1500, 5.7 L, 86,000 original miles.  I bought it new.  Today I went to run an errand and when I pulled the shift lever into drive, it went freely all the way without going into a gear.  I looked next to the transmission and there is a lever and the shift cable is not attached.  I have attached a picture.  I don't want to buy a whole new cable.  Can I just replace something to prevent from spending money on the cable on a vehicle I drive only on the weekends.  I checked O'Reilley's and Advance and they said that they don't sell the part.  Can anyone provide me with an OEM part number and a place to order?  I have seen some bushings that appear to go into the end of the cable.

Actually, you just need the rectangular steel piece that the cable clips to. It is a ball and socket type attachment of the the cable. If you look closely, you can see the ball snapped off the steel piece and is stuck in the cable's socket. Pry that out somehow, and just get a new steel lever from a donor transmission and you should be good to go.

Guys,

I need some advice.  I changed out the below part and the end of the shift cable will not stay on.  I need a part that will go where it attaches to the ball on the lever.  Can someone give me an amazon link to this right part?  I sure don't want to order the wrong part.
