Snowcamo Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 The Redarc is supposed to take care of it, but I really don't want to spend that much(and I've already got a new PAC-200) - as I'm not gonna put a super expensive battery in as secondary. And, in the end, the load on that battery is not going to be super great usually either - I just like the piece of mind having it to power things in the back of the truck for work. Here's a link to the unit I'm talking about https://www.amazon.com/REDARC-BCDC1225D-Dc-Dc-Charger-12V25a/dp/B077JPHCRVWhat do you plan to power from the batt and how long?Sent from my LG-G710 using Tapatalk
gmcdawg Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 some led lights, an inverter to power drill battery chargers and such on occasion, and ham radio.
Snowcamo Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Ah ok. In all seriousness I'd do a 2 battery bank separately just for that. That would give you the off time your looking for without draining batt life down too much. I'd go (2) 3100 series batts if the funds were available. Given you say it wouldn't be that often it might not be worth it. For what its worth~ no automotive alternator will actually charge a batt to a complete charge. Only what a manufacturer designs it to be. To test this wait until you feel a batt is charged. Then connect it to a excellent stand alone charger. It'll charge a little bit more. I bet...
gmcdawg Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Yes, I know what you're saying about alt vs external charger and don't disagree.
