You are ahead of me, got a NSB-AGM94R battery ON SALE for $259.99 + tax and exchange quoted to me. Trying to see if I can find a dead battery somewhere, or what the non-core price is.

Sometimes any battery will do. Just depends on the place your buying from.[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

Also let me know how you deal with the power distribution "Cap" on top of the old battery (If you got one). With Pics! =D

Is there a procedure for swapping batteries, and by that I mean, does the computer need to relearn things, or something?

Wonder what happens if I used a battery maintainer on a cig adapter while I do the swap.

I just swap em. No issues on mine. Unless you count having to reprogram radio station's.

Well, after a week of having my Northstar cozy in the garage, I finally got it installed. Wasn't nearly a PITA as I thought. Few notes for my 2018...

1) Tried the "keep a battery charger plugged into the wires so I didnt have to re-set everything" method... then #2 put a halt to those plans.

2) According to most of the videos, they are d/cing the positive "Jumper" from the post to the distro box that sits on the battery and fold it over toward the engine to get it out of the way.... This is not the case on mine, as there are the wires coming off the distro box engine side, but mine also has 3 wires coming out of the battery fender side.

There isnt enough slack to fold it toward the front of the truck, so I ended up saying "screw it" and disconnected the charger, and unplugged the fender side connections and folded the box toward the engine out of the way.

3) Did not remove coolant overfill bottle, just tilted everything and it came out and back in just fine. (Thanks GM for removing the battery handle... jerks)

4) I was slightly surprised when all my settings, blutooth, wifi, radio, all my settings deep in the menus were intact! It did ask me to roll down my drivers window all the way and back up though, but so far that's the only thing that I noticed so far different, and the window thing was just do this once.

Ducky, what isolater did you go with?  I've been reading alot about these trucks having "smart" alternators, and needing to have a DC-DC charger (like Redarc) instead of the old fashioned relay.  I have a PAC 200 relay to use, but second guessing using it now.

Snowcamo, what's the difference in the PAC200SPR and PAC200 relays?

Working on the factory tray mods, will post pics when done.

Oh Sorry for the change of plan that invalidates at least my portion of this thread... I'm doing a single AGM battery for now. I may want to do dual later, but in the last two offroad vehicle with offroad lights and winch, ive only ever had a single deep cell and never had issues. As this truck is more of an overlander, I may consider dual when the need arises.

The pac spr 200 comes with a control this is the most user frendly. Just install and let it do its thing. They utilize the same solenoid.

OK so it really doesn't address the smart alternator possibly not fully charging the secondary battery.  That's what I was wondering
There not one charging system i know of that will address that. To do so you would need a isolation solenoid kit and figure a way to direct the alternator charge to the battery inwhich charging is needed. Its not as big of a deal as it is made to be. The batts will charge just fine.

The Redarc is supposed to take care of it, but I really don't want to spend that much(and I've already got a new PAC-200) - as I'm not gonna put a super expensive battery in as secondary.  And, in the end, the load on that battery is not going to be super great usually either - I just like the piece of mind having it to power things in the back of the truck for work.

Here's a link to the unit I'm talking about

    • Even tougher is the 5.0 / 302. That's what this one has.    https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   https://postimg.cc/4n3F3yzY   Just realized I had the airbox removed in the engine pic, lol.
    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
