LOCKING DIFFERENTIALS

:D SEVERAL Z71 OWNERS HAVE TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD TO HAVE THE

LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL REPLACED BECAUSE IT BLEW APART. THEY ALSO SAID THEY WERE AIRBORNE AT THE TIME. I'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM, BUT WHEN I HAVE THE REAR END APART, THE LOCKER LOOKS PRETTY FRAGILE. ANYONE HAD THE LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL REPLACED BECAUSE IT LITTERALLY "BLEW APART"?

I've had three G80's, sold one at 113K, the other is at 85K and my 2001 is at 32K all have had hard lives on the farm and are still going strong.

120K still going strong in my K3500. Locker has held up great even with heavy use. I plow in the winter and haul a 7000K dump trailer though mud and lose sand once a week.

Keep in mind that a 1500 will have a 10 bolt 8.5" ring gear, a 2500 willh have a 14 bolt 9.5" ring gear, and a 2500HD or a 3500 will have a 14 bolt 10.5" ring gear, or better. All of these come equipped with versions of the Eaton G-80 Gov-Lok differential, and naturally the bigger axles are stronger.

Being airborne never broke anything. Its the landing that does the damage.
