4wd problems

I'm having issues with my 2008 sierra 1500 4WD system... Front end makes a noise like its the wheel bearing or CV joints, and they are good.. But I've noticed that the 4WD selector switch is NOT illuminated... Haven't checked the fuses yet or ground. . any suggestions ??

So is it going into other modes, 4HI, 4LO, AUTO, etc.?  If the amber light is not coming on, or flashes and goes back to 2HI, then yep, you got a problem somewhere and need a bi-directional scan tool to pull codes and do diagnostics without throwing parts at it and guessing.
