bosch platinum 2 or 4 for 327 engine?

Recommended Posts

 Time to do tune up. 2000 chevy truck with 327 engine.

1) which bosch should I use? The Platinum 2 or 4?

2) what is the best plug for this engine?

Thanks for all your expertise.

neither. go with the AC/Delco plugs. definitly avoid the plus 4 from bosch at least thats what I've heard and been warned against by various mechanics.

I would go with some regular plugs ... the bosch +4's don't do anything a regular plug doesn't...

I dont know...

I've had some mixed results with those +4 plugs.

They worked well for about 60,000 miles in one vehicle, and worked well for about 10 in anothe before my fuel economy went to hell and they were as black as black could be  so i replaced em with ngk tr55's and low and behold my truck ran right again :dunno:

I had those +4 in my '95 Silverado and they made no performance gains, the only thing they really did was last very long without losing performance! I personally wouldnt spend that much on plugs for my Silverado. I think alot of people here just use a plain copper Champion plug!

AC Delco, NGK, Autolite, anything but Bosch + anything. I had great luck with Autolites in my Dodge. 1/4 mile times were lower with them. Late model GM engines seem to prefer NGK according to what we are seeing. TR55s work well in my 5.3.

in GM vehicles I've found that the AC/Delco Rapidfires work very well, I've used them in 94 Grand Prix 3.1L, 1971 Buick Riviera 455, and I even put them in my old 92 Crown Victoria Touring Sedan and now in my 1995 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor with great success! In my Jeeps all the mechanics and jeep owners strongly recomended sticking with the Champions which I did and never noticed a problem at all, most dodge truck/Jeep vehicles work best with Champion for some reason. I tried NGK Plugs in my old Nissan Stanza but they wore out way too fast (less then 15,000 miles before they needed to be replaced) and the engine never seemed to run as smoothly with them, I ended up putting in bosch platniums and it did ok, sold it with those plugs in there, but probably wouldn't use bosch again. I'll stick with either Champions or AC/Delcos.

My silverado will be getting a set of Rapidfires here pretty soon along with new plug wires.
