Right Turn Signal Conundrum

I am having a strange thing going on with the turn signal on my 2006 1500 Silverado.

When the lights are on, if I turn my right turn signal all the way on, it turns on my high beams as well as turning on the signal. When the lights are off, the right turn signal operates normally. If I just use the lane change function on the right turn signal when the lights are on it operates normally as well. I can sometimes make the turn signal operate properly by first turning on the high beams and then turning them off.

Does this sound like a malfunctioning switch assembly? Or could it possibly be something else?

To me, it definitely sounds like the switch, since they work normally in the lane-change function - that rules out any shorts, or grounding issues down the line to the lights. Since the high beams share the same switch with the signals, deductive reasoning tells me it's the switch.

I believe '06 wasn't BCM controlled - if it is, that throws a wrench into that theory a bit ...

If it is BCM controlled, could that possibly be the problem and not the turn signal switch assembly?

Absolutely. There's the magic box, plus 100 miles of cheap wiring involved there. The failure modes of that are endless.

I'm pretty sure that crap didn't start until 2007 with the GMT-900 series trucks ... but I'm not 100% sure. It's hard to keep track of all the b/s they've engineered into vehicles the past 25 years.

EDIT:  Actually, the headlights in my '00 Jimmy were BCM controlled (just remembered, because they failed one night, and I had to tow my wife home because of it), so it's guaranteed yours is too. But I'm thinking since the lane change function works, it's probably a switch failure. You'll have to do some testing with the switch in order to rule it out 100%.

I just had this problem with my '04 Sierra 3500.  Right turn would sometimes turn on high beams.  Replaced the turn signal switch a couple weeks ago and the problem hasn't happened again.
