99Silver6.0 Posted November 2, 2003 Posted November 2, 2003 Ok, does anybody know what the stock fog light bulb wattage is? I just found out today that Sylvania makes the Silverstar in an 880 bulb that will fit our trucks. I believe the bulb wattage is 29W. I want these bulbs because they will somewhat match the color of my HID headlights. Anybody think those new lights will toast the fog light housings?
whitez71thoe Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 Hope this helps. I'm not sure what the original wattage for the fogs were, but i think they were 18 or 19 watts. I have a z71 tahoe with the round fog lights and the r&d kit which turns the fogs on with your lights. I had the 50 watt fogs for a while, but they started to fry my housings . I switched to the 29 watt sivlerstars and they seem almost as bright and i haven't noticed any melting yet. The bulb also looks a little different in the 29 watt silverstars. It has a chrome piece on the end which reflects the light back into the housing. the 50 watt sylvania (non silverstar) did not. This may be the reason for the similar light output (ie. increased reflection=more light output), but i'm not an expert.
