FYI

went to the dealer today and talked to them about running a pf59 oil filter in place of a pf44.

they said it would be no problem as long as there was no pysical clearance problems.

also the pf44 is now the pf46.

Did my first oil change with the PF 46 this weekend, and the threads were bad! It would thread on only about 1/4 of the way. Dealer was 30 minutes away and Napa was 5 minutes away so I got a 1042 Napa Gold on there right now.

 

Always check if the filter screws all the way down, especially before you fill it up with oil. What a mess

I had asked my dealer the same question and they said that they were using the pf59 in place of the pf44 for their oil changes (2003 HD models). They got a memo from GM telling them to stop and only use the smaller filter. He didn't know why. They now are only using the pf44/pf46 for those engines that specify the pf44. They conitinue to use the pf59 on the earlier models that specify them.

 

makes no sence to me, but since I change my oil filter frequently, I am going to use the smaller one.
