U Joints Keep Going Bad

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, hopefully this is the right forum. I have a 99 Silverado 1500 4×4 with the 4.8L motor. I have an aluminum driveshaft, and have had it disconnected 3 times, and the U Joints replaced three times within the last 18 months, each time by a mechanic who professes more knowledge than the last. Each time I get about two-three weeks of squeak free driving. I dread taking it to a dealer. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Are the u-joints actually bad?  It's also possible the yokes (what the u-joint goes into) are damaged.  Or perhaps the slip yoke going into the transmission is making the noise.
