2014 Sierra Intermittent Crank/Won't Start

Hi Guys,

We have a 2014 Sierra 1500 that we have recently been having problems with. Girlfriend said it acted kinda weak when she tried to start it after work one day. After not noticing anything different, I just kinda passed it off as nothing. We went to visit family last night, and when we were about to leave, I remote started the truck. While it was running, we all stood and talked for a while next to the truck, and eventually the remote start time ran out. After about 5 minutes, we got in the truck to leave, but when I turned the key, I got about half a crank, then nothing but clicks from the starter. I let it sit for a minute then tried again, nothing but clicks. I started playing with the alternator wires, thinking maybe it wasn't charging the battery, nothing was loose or corroded. We jumped it with my brother's car and it started right up. We drove it home (about a 10 minute drive), and I shut it off, then started it again to make sure the alternator was charging. It started up on its own with no issues. This morning she got in the truck to go to work, and nothing. Won't start, just clicks like the night before. Has anyone else had this issue, and what could it be?

Thank you,

Dalton

Welcome to the site.

You did not mention if you are the original owner or not, so wondering if you know how old the battery is?

When you jumped it, did you notice if the cables were tight? Ground issues will cause problems like this.

Howdy! On my 2014 Silverado It had been starting weak, and one time I went out to start it and and it just clicked and everything went out. I spent a few minutes looking at it and my short + jumper wire that goes from the battery lug to the fuse panel about 6 inches away had corroded inside the jacket. (You couldn’t tell by the looks of it well) I put one side of the jumper cables on the lug and the same side on the panel and all power came on and It started much quicker. Unfortunately that specific cable that goes from the battery to the panel has a weird special lug extension so you have to pay a lot more for it and the parts store needed to special order..: So, I just got a REGULAR battery lug connector with a wing nut on top and a short battery jumper for under $10 and it fixed it right up!

Might be worth a shot checking that wire. Also check your grounds.
