Maybe it's just me, but doesn't it seem like if you turn off your truck for something like fuel, that the camera system shouldn't have to recalibrate. I know the instructions say it has to do that, but seems to me that it really should add a feature to that says if the vehicle is turned off, then back on within a 30 minute period that it doesn't have to go through the calibration step all over again. 

 

I'm loving the camera on my Airstream, but I find it certainly takes a bit longer than 60 feet to get it calibrated and sometimes getting it calibrated before you have to go faster than 25 MPH is impossible. Anybody else feel that they should have some storage of these values? At a minimum I would think the way to do it is try the previous values and see if the previous values are still valid.

You should have to only calibrate once as long as your profile is saved with dimensions.  If you change any dimensions or a camera, then you will need to recalibrate.  The calibration distance depends on a lot factors.  I have calibrated around a 100 trucks and never seen one calibrate under 1000 ft.  Calibration does not like shadows in the camera view.

Interesting.... I know my dimensions are saved with my Airstream profile. I wonder why it wants to recalibrate all the time?  It does look great though. I know I read something about it having to recalibrate... I'll need to go find those instructions now.

Your picture looks like you got the dimensions correct.  If you still have problems, send me a picture of the camera on the trailer and I can see if anyone has a suggestion.

I have had it loose cailbration at fuel stops also, most of the time it figures itself out but not always. Other times I can pick the trailer up from storage and it recalibrates before i get out of the lot. I have been leaving the truck running during pit stops just to keep from loosing the calibration.

Interesting, @sdelam... that mirrors my experience. 

So I just looked at the box that came with my camera. 

Apparently the new part number is: 84946379

My camera part number is: 84876818

 

@MTU Alum: Can you tell me what has changed? Is there any updated firmware? Would the new camera behave differently?

Mine is older also, bought it last year and it was a 2019 1/2 ton part number.

I'm not sure of the difference between the two.  I know their was a change to the connector orientation between the 2019 and 2020.  I personally have only used the 2019 version.

Hello. I am hoping someone can help.

I installed my camera and entered dimensions. The view is satisfactory to me but my camera wont calibrate. I have even taken a 15 mile drive. The furthest progress bar has gotten is about 1/8 the way. Any help? Is there way to force calibrate since I am satisfied with the view?

You have to be under 30 mph to calibrate and it only calibrates when you are in a relatively straight line.  Did you mount the camera in the recommended area?  Which is basically center of trailer 2 inches above your tailgate camera with trailer attached.

I am having the same issue.  Installed camera and mounted dead center of target area. Set all dimensions and started drive to calibrate. Nothing in the instructions say you have to drive less the 30mph. It only says drive forward for at least 60ft. I drove over 50 miles today and it still is not calibrated. Camera is functioning great and have all views except invisible trailer. Any help would be great.

It will only calibrate while going straight under 30 mph.  Find a place where you can drive at slow speed in a straight line.  It's ok to turnaround or make turns while calibrating.  The calibration can have issues if there are shadows in the camera view.  On sunny days, you can get shadows in the image.  Try going in a different direction.  I recommend selecting the transparent view during the calibration process.  There will be a yellow status bar at bottom of the view to see the progress as you drive.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I found the side to side center line and mounted it about 2 inches about the height of the truck camera. I did do a long straight run for at least 1/2 mile at <30 and nothing. The calibrating finally times out and it does the transparent view.

    • On 2021 3500hd it consistently sets automatically when selecting park if the incline/decline is above a certain angle. 
    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks. 
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions? 
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!  
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
