Its comes with the 9.76 axle, which according to another post on here comes with the 6.2 and according to that post it looks like the 3.0 as well.

So it is the "heavier" axle? just not the lower gears?

I just saw that other thread about the 9.76s...leave it to GM to print ONE thing and DO another!  haha  It makes sense, as the high torque of the 3.0 and 6.2 are definitely suited to the 9.76, but I was just going off what GM itself had in print.  Reminds me of the old days when OEMs would have surpluses of this axle or that axle and just stick in what they had laying around!

Is there a sticker or something that I can look for to see which axle it truly has?

If you want to know for sure, get underneath and look at the casting numbers...otherwise, you can email GM and get the build sheet with all of the specific RPO codes for your truck.  But easiest is to just get underneath and look...see the other pictures in this post.  Directly behind the pinion, on a casting rib in the axle housing...

Interesting, just got under my 3.0 Duramax and it has the 9.76 diff too.

So the 9.76” is the heavier rated axle housing? I know springs and the sticker give it it’s rating, but if I did get airbags the axle is good to go, in theory.

Lucky!  Wish they had that package for LTZ, I need power folding mirrors to fit in the 1 car garage door.

Your sticker has a RGAWR- Rear Gross Axle Weight Rating.  I would hesitate to exceed that.

For sure, that # has a lot of room left on it.

Just wanted to show you that my little 4253lb dry travel trailer was able to put me over GVWR and over RGAWR with my family and all of our gear.  I’m going to have to remove and/or move a lot of junk into the trailer to be able to make my truck legal.

Thanks, I do need to weigh it. And also that’s why I will be going to a 2500 sooner than later.
